It is said that the merchants who had business in Tsuchiyu planted the cherry blossom to celebrate the opening of a road between Tsuchiyu and Fukushima in 1932.
Two varieties of beautiful cherry blossoms, Yoshino-Zakura and Yama-Zakura, bloom annually in their full glory.

The residents of the Suginoshita Town planted the cherry blossoms in hope of viewing them when a road was constructed alongside the Arakawa River in 1956.
These days, the graceful cherry blossoms are reflected beautifully on the surface of the river.

Japanese Skunk Cabbages

There are three colonies of Japanese skunk cabbage in Tsuchiyu-Onsen.
You can enjoy the skunk cabbages blossom, taking turns in reaching their peaks from early April to mid-May.

There are presumably as many as 100,000 skunk cabbages.
It takes 10 minutes by car from the hot spring area and another 20 minutes more by foot to get there.
No need to be fully equipped, but comfortable sports shoes are highly recommended.

You can casually view Japanese skunk cabbages on both sides of National Route 115.

It takes 40 minutes to complete this trail.

A small hill on the way to Menuma Swamp has always been famous for its gregarious azaleas.
The hill was developed into Tsutsuji-Yama Koen Park.
The view of the hill being fully covered with azalea blossoms is breathtaking.

Local people in Tsuchiyu planted star lilies in an effort to make Tsuchiyu the best star lily spot in Japan.
The view of numerous pale pink flowers covering the field is utterly impressive.
In Japanese, star lily is called Himesayuri (princess lily) or Otomeyuri (maiden lily).

Onuma Swamp and Menuma Swamp
Approx. 60 minutes walk from Tsuchiyu-Onsen
Both swamps were created by a dry avalanche in the highland.
The walking trail from Onuma Swamp through Nida-Numa Swamp to Menuma Swamp is a very popular hiking destination especially in verdurous early summer and magnificently colored autumn.

[Omoi-no-Taki Falls]

Omoi-no-Taki Falls
There is a legend associated with the waterfalls about a tragic love story of a young warrior and a princess at the fall of Aizu-jo Castle.
Two strings of waterfalls are united into one and keep falling sonorously creating a beautiful contrast with the surrounding greenery.

Tsutsuji-Yama (Azalea Hill)
Wild azaleas have long been growing gregariously on the hill at the entrance to Menuma Swamp.
The hill was worked on so that azaleas could bear large blossoms; and thus, it became known as Tsutsuji-Yama. The entire hill becomes pale pink during the peak period.
